About the Artist

I am a native Kentuckian with a deep love and a great interest in all breeds of horses. This love, coupled with my gift of art makes me realize how fortunate I am to live in the heart of horse country—the Bluegrass of Kentucky. My country upbringing and background have kept my roots close to home.

My studio is located at home on our small family farm in Kentucky, which allows me a view of rolling, lush farmland, horses playing in the fields and marvelously peaceful sunsets. The Kentucky beauty that surrounds me has long been the inspiration that led me to draw and paint for pleasure, in my early years, and later as a profession.

Since 1966 I have been Art Director at The Horseman And Fair World magazine and my work has appeared on the cover and used in advertising for this popular harness racing publication. Because of this, most of my work hangs in the homes, farms and offices of people involved in harness racing and breeding throughout the world; but my art is not limited to this breed or even just to horses. I enjoy painting and drawing many other subjects ranging from animals, buildings and portraits of people.

I work in all mediums, my favorite and most frequent being pencil; but a lot of my work requires oils and acrylics. I have had a Freelance Art business since 1977, and had my first "One-Woman" show at The Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky, where it has continued there each year in the fall during Grand Circuit racing. Please check my homepage for upcoming shows and show dates.

I have several series of limited edition, signed and numbered Prints released—many series are sold-out. Also, I have a great selection of top quality Note Cards. I also accept commission work (see Originals for more details). My most popular projects are the handpainted Christmas Balls, which has proven very popular. The ball is a pearl-bisque finish with a very detailed painted scene. Others in the handpainted collection include clay flower pots, brick door stops, etc. (see Hand-Painted Items for more information). Also I have plates and Tee Shirts—check 'em out! Be sure to see my new crystal glassware—it is beautiful!

Most of my sales are from shows, mail-order or from my gift shop. My work is available through only a few selected galleries and shops. I feel very fortunate getting to know a lot of people throughout these years and having my art purchased by people from all over the world. This is a great compliment—truly a blessing. Although I had 4 years of art school by correspondence, I am considered a self-taught artist, with a God-given talent.

My husband loves horses and loves to ride, I just draw them! My other interests are music—I am the pianist at our church and sing in the choir— cooking, gardening and our precious children and grandchildren.

Thank you for visiting my site, and I hope that you find some artwork that you wish to purchase for yourself or as a gift. If you have any questions or just wish to drop me a line, email me at artbywanda@aol.com
